At Pecometh, we believe summer camp is more than just a fun getaway—it’s a transformative experience that helps campers grow, build friendships, and explore their faith in new and meaningful ways. This past summer, we partnered with Sacred Playgrounds, an organization that helps camps like ours understand and measure our impact. Through parent and caregiver surveys, we gathered valuable insights into how Pecometh’s overnight and day camps shape the lives of campers and their families. The results? Nothing short of inspiring!
Friendships, Fun, and Faith: The Heart of Pecometh
One of the most exciting findings from our study is that campers are forming strong friendships at Pecometh. More than 90% of parents agreed that their child met new people and made friends while at camp. That sense of connection and belonging is a huge part of what makes camp so special!
Beyond friendships, 96% of parents with day campers and 91% of parents with overnight campers agreed that their child had an absolute blast at camp. From kayaking to campfire songs, every moment is filled with excitement, adventure, and laughter.
We’re also thrilled to hear that parents see faith formation as a meaningful part of their child’s camp experience. 92% of parents agreed that Pecometh effectively teaches the Christian faith, and 81% of parents noted that their child learned more about the Bible while at camp. In fact, 40% of campers even came home singing Christian songs, and 37% initiated more conversations about faith with their families.
One parent shared:
“My son loved being independent of his family and making new connections with people. He was excited to tell me about the faith exploration experiences.”
More Than Just a Week at Camp
At Pecometh, we strive to provide experiences that last beyond a camper’s week at camp. According to the survey, 83% of parents agreed that their child grew in self-confidence after camp. It’s heartwarming to hear that campers leave Pecometh feeling more empowered and sure of themselves.
Another fascinating insight? 19% of parents noticed that their child spent less time on electronic devices after returning from camp. With 96% of parents agreeing that camp is an important place for young people to unplug from technology, we love knowing that campers are rediscovering the joys of outdoor play, creativity, and real-world friendships.
Camp’s Impact on Families
Pecometh’s impact extends beyond the campers—it also influences families in meaningful ways. 75% of Pecometh Day Camp parents saw clear positive changes in their children after camp. Additionally, nearly 40% of overnight campers were noticeably nicer to family members, and 36% were more helpful around the house.
These changes reflect one of the core beliefs of Pecometh: that camp isn’t just about the time spent here—it’s about the growth, lessons, and values that campers carry back home.
Looking Ahead to Another Summer of Growth & Fun
So, are families planning to return to Pecometh? 92% of parents said they plan to send their children back next summer! We can’t wait to welcome them again for another season of discovery, adventure, and transformation.
We are incredibly grateful to Sacred Playgrounds for helping us gain these insights and to every parent who took the time to share their experiences with us. Knowing that Pecometh is making a real difference in the lives of campers and their families motivates us to continue improving and creating even more impactful experiences in the years ahead.
