Pecometh Story: Maggie
"Maggie’s grandmother wanted her to have a great Christian experience during the summer. They had tried day camps at other sites, but they never offered quite what the family was looking for. This year, Maggie tried out Camp Pecometh for the first time.

Like many campers, Maggie was apprehensive before arriving at camp. It is challenging to come into a new space and have fun right away. Maggie described her feelings as “Fun and exciting, but I was a teeny bit nervous.” Luckily, Pecometh’s counselors put her right at ease. She recalled how “being with friends and the counselors” put her nerves to rest.

Since that first week of Day Camp, Maggie has been the model Pecometh camper. She loves all of the camp activities, but two of them stand above the rest: Arts and Crafts and Bible Study. Christ is a huge part of Maggie’s life, and she loves learning from the different pastors that volunteer at Pecometh each week. “They’re all nice and fun and have their own personalities,” she says. Her favorite of them all has been Paul Lewis, a retired pastor and Pecometh’s music leader for the 2024 season. At Paul’s Bible Studies, she says, “Pastor Paul is really nice and we always do prayer songs together.” Through the dedicated service of our pastoral volunteers, Maggie’s faith has been strengthened.

Maggie’s mother Brittany speaks glowingly about Pecometh’s Day Camps. “Pecometh Day Campers are always doing new things. Other camps are unstructured, but Pecometh is always doing something new and gives campers something to look forward to. At other camps they color all day and swim for a minute.” Both Maggie and Brittany have noticed positive changes since the start of camp. Maggie describes how camp “helped me learn to be a little bit nicer.” Brittany described how positive it is for Maggie to be outside all day. These benefits continued for Maggie all summer as she registered for all ten weeks of day camp this year. She even wanted to come on Independence Day despite her family’s holiday plans. She knows that she will definitely be returning next year.

Maggie wanted to be sure to let everyone know some important information about her camp experience. First, “you learn a lot about Jesus.” Second, “I got used to walking.” Third, “they have really good lunches.” Maggie is an excellent Pecometh camper, and we love being the camp where she can have both a personal relationship with a pastor and a really good lunch."
