Pecometh Donors Fund New (Sort Of) Truck

Pecometh Blog | Pecometh Donors Fund New TruckA few months ago we made a significant purchase from Willis Chevrolet in Smyrna DE, for Pecometh Camp & Retreat Ministries, namely a semi-new 2011 Chevy pick-up.

Bud-d Landing, Facilities Director for Pecometh, explains. “The old truck we had was 18 years old. It had many mechanical problems, and it needed new brakes. It was nickel and diming us to death.”

Bud-d knew it was time for a new truck, and since he purchased the old one from Bill Willis and his team at Willis GM in Smyrna, DE, he knew just where to go. Willis GM has been providing 15-passenger vans for Pecometh’s summer program at a deeply discounted price for over a decade.

Plus, there are other connections with Willis and Pecometh. Bill’s two sons, Isaac and Lincoln are past campers here as well. Both sons work in the family business and Isaac has been handling Pecometh’s van needs for several years now. When it was time to look for a truck, Bud-d called Isaac.

In December of last year, the money needed for the new truck was raised through the support of generous donors. Earlier this year, Isaac called to say that he had found a vehicle that was perfect for our needs.

It is a single-owner vehicle that had been serviced exclusively by Willis. At only three years old, it was still in mint condition. We bought the truck for $22,500 and Buddy couldn’t be happier with the result.

Buddy continues. “It had 50,000 miles on it and we bought it with a tow package.  It’s grey, fuel efficient, has seating for 6, and is great for towing boats and all the trailers that we work with. It’s just a better truck.”

With all that Bud-d does for Pecometh (and has been doing since 1995), it’s nice to know that with the help of our generous donors, it is possible to continue the work that we have been called to do.
